Design_Net Engineering uses a phased product development process. Programs are broken down into discrete phases, each rigorously defined, scheduled, budgeted and contracted. It is to be emphasized that Design_Net Engineering encourages full participation by clients in all aspects of this process, including total job price estimate development. We cooperatively develop the program, schedule and budget with you. We function in all respects as your in-house technical resource, partner and project manager.
PHASE 0 – PROJECT PLANNING, FEASIBILITY STUDIES
In this important Phase, we start out working together to plan the program. We jointly provide input to begin to understand the scope of the project and our potential working relationship. We establish the guidelines for the crucial elements of the program such as schedule, budget and the general technical approach. We identify critical issues and develop a plan by which to investigate them prior to investing significant time or capital.
PHASE 1 -
SPECIFICATION AND ARCHITECTURE
Phase 1 represents
an important extension of Phase 0, in which the planning process
is expanded into considerable detail. Our process relies heavily
on detailed documentation in the form of Requirements Documents,
Architecture Documents, Test Plans, and other documents, as
required, by the specific program. This not only forces the
planning process, but also provides you, the customer, with
detailed insight into the program and a means to track our progress
and performance.
PHASE 2 –
DESIGN
In Phase 2 the detailed designs are generated. These designs are in the form of complete engineering drawings, circuit layouts, software code, documentation, etc.
PHASE 3 -
ENGINEERING PROTOTYPE FABRICATION
In Phase 3 the engineered designs are used to create the first engineering prototype units, breadboards, etc. These prototypes are extensively tested and provide the basis for proceeding to Phase 4. If you hire us for solely a prototype effort, this would be the end of our involvement.
PHASE 4 -
PRODUCTION PROTOTYPES AND PRE-PRODUCTION
In phase 4 design refinements are made to correct problems detected in Phase 3, and to ensure that the product can be produced in volume, in a cost-effective manner. Likewise the tooling for production is designed and fabricated.
PHASE 5 -
PILOT PRODUCTION
Production-quality units are produced in low volume to validate the tooling and manufacturing methods. Often, these units are implemented in a Beta field test program prior to full production and volume sales.
